Moisturising is probably the most important step you can take to look after your skin.

Along with proper cleansing and sun protection, moisturising is probably the most important step you can take to look after your skin. Not only do moisturisers help ‘plump up’ skin, making it look healthier and more youthful, they also help replace any moisture lost to dehydration, air-conditioning and central heating. This is important because dry skin tends to be more susceptible to premature ageing – and wrinkles.

For optimum hydration choose the right moisturiser for you particular skin-type (as well as ones for normal skin there are specially-formulated ones for those whose skin is sensitive or oily) and if you’re particularly concerned about wrinkles opt for one with a built-in sunscreen to guard against the ageing affects of the sun’s rays.

How to use: After moisturising skin should stay hydrated for 6-12 hours so apply twice daily, ideally when skin is still slightly damp from cleansing. Apply more if required, especially if you’re showering at the gym.

N&J knowledge: Don’t forget to re-apply your moisturiser last thing at night. Studies have shown that skin repairs itself best at night and creams are better absorbed when skin is warm.
